Locus League is an iOS game for dropping location pins on a shared map. Support and legal pages for the app are at locusleague.app.
Account Data
On iOS you can sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. Google or Apple shares your email address (Apple may share a private relay address instead), and a name or profile photo if your account has them. We use that only to identify your session, show you as signed in, and (for the operator) administer the service.
We do not post your Google or Apple email, name, or profile photo on the map. Pins show the username and pin color you choose in Settings, not your sign-in identity.
What We Store
We store in Google Cloud (Firestore in the United States):
- Your Google or Apple user ID, email, display name, and photo URL
- The username, pin color, and opacity you set
- Pins you create (name, notes, location, and timestamps)
- Private two-way chats between you and another signed-in user (usernames, message text, and time)
- Public Chat posts (username, message text, and time), visible to other signed-in users
- Team name, color, membership, and private team chat, visible to that team’s members
- Forum threads and replies (username, title, message text, and time), visible to other signed-in users
- High Scores (username, level, awards, score, hops, GPS pins, hexes, and team stats), visible to other signed-in users
- Reports you send (what you reported, a short snippet, and your username), visible to the operator
- Players you block, used only to hide their pins and posts from you and to stop private messages
Pins are visible to other signed-in users, including on your profile. A private conversation is visible only to the two people in it. Team chat is visible only to that team. Public Chat posts, Forum posts, and High Scores are visible to every signed-in user. We do not sell your data. We do not use Google or Apple user data for advertising.
Location
The iOS app asks the device for location while you use the app (when in use only). We do not request always-on or background location.
Location is required for your first pin and for any new GPS pin. Once you have at least one GPS or Hop pin, hopping works with location turned off. You may place a GPS pin up to 2.5 miles from where you actually are. We use location only to place a GPS pin. It is not tracked and not used for anything else. The chosen pin location is stored when you save.
Notifications
We may ask for permission to send notifications after you sign in for the same types you show on the map chip: user messages, public chat, forum, team, and system notices. You can decline, and you can turn types off in Notifications. We do not send advertising notifications.
Retention and Deletion
You can sell individual pins you own, which removes them from the map. Delete Account in Settings in the iOS app removes your pins, score, Store, team, chats, username, and stored account data. Signing in again with the same Google or Apple account starts a new game.
